Kelly Ann Jakubek, 66, of Duluth, died Monday, May 13, 2024 in Essentia Health, St. Mary’s Hospital under Palliative Care.
Kelly was born on October 14, 1957 in Duluth to Samuel Simon and Margaret Ellen (Curran) Jakubek.
Kelly was a 1976 graduate of Duluth Denfeld High School and attended St. Scholastica after graduation where she excelled in accounting classes.
Kelly worked for a local attorney as a paralegal for close to a year, in addition to being a church secretary for one year before she took the civil service exam. Upon passing, she landed her lifetime career with the City of Duluth.
In the beginning years of her career, she worked as a librarian assistant for the Duluth Public Library, and then the latter part of her time with the City, she was a hard working clerical professional for the Water and Gas Department, until her retirement at age 58 after 34 years.
Kelly enjoyed her collectibles, and watching the Minnesota Vikings with her brothers. Her favorite color was purple, of course. She loved the melody - "How Great Thou Art," -sung by Elvis, and her favorite plant was the Coleus.
Kelly enjoyed road trips to Memphis Tennessee, touring the Elvis Mansion with family at least 3 times; enjoyed the picturesque beauty of the Grand Canyon; walking the beach of Cancun, Mexico, and Bluefin Bay visits lounging with family. She was welcomed home by her beloved black cat - “Elvis,” also known as “Zippy.”
She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church; and attended St. Mary's Star of the Sea with family, in addition to Living Church of God to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
Because Kelly was soft-spoken, she became a great communicator through texting.
We would like to thank the Priests and Pastors from the local Churches that frequently visited Kelly in her home, providing her excellent spiritual care.
In addition, we appreciate the medical care team that surrounded Kelly at Essentia St. Mary's ICU and Palliative Care in her time of need.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edward Joseph and Timothy Samuel Jakubek.
Kelly is survived by a brother, Jeffrey James Jakubek of Milltown, WI; a sister, Tracey Margaret (Joseph) Kayoum of Northfield, MN; two nieces, Tiffany Marie Paffel and Katelyn Jo (Fiancé’ Justin Olson) Kayoum; a great-niece and nephew, Cynthia Paffel and Jace Jakubek.
