Kenneth Simon

January 14, 1921 — June 3, 2013

Kenneth George Simon, formerly of Meadowlands, Minnesota, died peacefully at St. Joseph's Home for the Aged in Kenosha, Wisconsin on June 3, 2013. Ken was born on January 14, 1921 at home in a Ness Township farmhouse located on the Whiteface River several miles outside of Meadowlands, Minnesota. Ken grew up here and helped his parents operate a small dairy farm along with the usual other farm animals and crops of the time. He attended grade school in a one-room schoolhouse about two miles away and afterwards attended Meadowlands High School where he met his future wife Helen. When Ken was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944, Ken and Helen were engaged to be married as Ken went off to fight in World War II. Ken returned from the war in 1946 and moved to Chicago where Helen was already living and working. They married in Chicago and both worked at the Western Electric Company for a time until Ken went to work at Danly Machines in Cicero, Illinois. Here he learned the trade of machinist and rose through the ranks until he retired approximately 30 years later as a general foreman. After their son Richard was born, Helen became a homemaker and the family of three made their home in Brookfield, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. In 1983, Ken and Helen moved back to the Meadowlands area into a farmhouse on 40 acres and spent their retirement years there. After Helen died in 2010, Ken moved close to his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren in Southeast Wisconsin where he eventually spent his last two years at St. Joseph's Home for the Aged in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Ken was an avid bowler for many years and loved to work on all sorts of projects around the house and property. He enjoyed tending the vegetable garden and was active in Church and community affairs, helping out in the creation of the Meadowlands Community Center. He always enjoyed his three grandchildren and watching them grow up.

Ken was preceded in death by his loving wife Helen, his parents Josef and Effie Simon, sister Georgia Simon and brother Donald Simon.

He is survived by his son Richard and his wife Janet of Bristol, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Josef, Katherine, and Daniel Simon; brother Eugene Simon; brother-in-law George Kucera; nephews Steve, Tom, Kevin, and Corey Kucera; and niece, Lisa Hill.
