Lawrence Stovern

Lawrence "Larry" A. Stovern, 85, of Westwood Senior Living, Duluth died Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Solvay Hospice House with his family by his side. Larry was born April 18, 1929 in Duluth to Lauritz and Agnes (Lucas) Stovern. He attended Nettleton, Washington Jr and graduated from Duluth Central in June 1947. He enlisted in the US Army in August, 1947, and served in Korea during the war, returning to the US in June, 1951 and was discharged on August 14, 1951 at Ft. Sheridan, Il.
Larry began working at Commercial Electric in July, 1952 and eventually bought the company, retiring in July, 1996.
He was a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Rotary Club #25 and was the founder of "The 47 Men of Troy".
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lauritz and Agnes; his first wife of 46 years, Janice (Nelson); brother, George; sisters, Audrey and his infant sister, Mardell.
Larry is survived by his wife, Frances Anne, whom he married on September 16, 2000; children, Barb (Greg) Owens, Skip (Cheryl) Stovern and Jim (Jasmine) Stovern; Fran's children, Chris (Craig) Seeland, Tom (Barb) Van Reese, Steve (Diane) Van Reese, Cathy (Dan) Waterhouse and Julie (John) Foucault;
grandchildren, Matt (Amanda), Lindsay, Lara, Eric, Kristy (Rob), Bryan (Lauren), Katy (Dan), Karly (Chris), Matt (Amber), Kristina (Jason), Mike, Mandy (Ken), Dan (Cara), Kelly, Chad, Danielle (Luke), Ryan, Ashley (Jonathan), Nick, Kyle, Amber, Corbin and Brooke (Jerry); great-grandchildren, Lydia, Stacy, Connor, Caleb, Casey, Carson, Parker, Dawson, Morgan and Charlotte; siblings, Louie, Bill (Rhonda), June, Pat, Peggy and Mary.
Visitation will be Saturday from 12:30 pm to the 1:30 pm Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 325 E. 3rd St. Duluth. Burial at Park Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth, (218) 727-3555.
