Leona Genevieve Prudhomme, 97, of Duluth, died Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Benedictine Health Center Marywood Assisted Living. A lifelong Duluth resident, she was born May 26, 1917 to Emery and Virginia (Prefontaine) Roy. She attended St. John's Catholic Grade School and graduated from Cathedral High School. A Woodland neighborhood resident for most of her life, Leona was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. She had worked as a bookkeeper for the family owned Prudhomme Garage, as well as a kitchen aide for Woodland Hills. Leona lived to cook and bake, and she was very good at both. She enjoyed embroidery, crossword puzzles, card games, and was the 'Yahtzee Queen'. She loved to fish and watch sports, especially the Twins games. Family gatherings and activities were very important to Leona. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Omer in 1997; and her son Eugene in Feb, 2015. Leona is survived by her daughters: Genevieve (Ken) Graves of Duluth and Virginia (Pat) Silvers of San Jose, CA; her son David (Candace) Prudhomme of Bella Vista, AR; her daughter-in-law Penny Prudhomme of Duluth; twelve grandchildren: Anne, Peter, Michelle, Mary, Melissa, Tim, Tom, Joan, Joe, Leigh Anne, Jill, Brian, and their families; 23 great-grandchildren; four great- great grandchildren. Thanks to the staffs of Pines III, St. Luke's Hospital, Benedictine Health Center, Marywood and Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospice. Visitation: 5 - 7 PM Wednesday, May 13th, with a 6:30 PM Rosary at Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation continues Thursday at 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. John's Catholic Church, 4230 St. John's Avenue. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
