Lillian Schneider

Lillian Margaret Schneider, age 97, a longtime Rice Lake Township resident, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the Benedictine Health Center. She was born Lily Margaret Soderberg on July 1, 1916 in Isanti, Minn. to John and Bertha (Malander) Soderberg. At the age of 3 they moved to Holyoke, Minn. where she attended Holyoke grade school. Lil was a proud graduate of Denfeld High School. She left home at the age of 14 and worked as a housekeeper in Duluth in order to earn her high school diploma, graduating in 1936. She remained in Duluth working at the Main Tea Room. Lil married Justin Schneider on May 24, 1938 and they had five children. Lil was a homemaker until taking a job as a "lunch lady" at St. John's School in Woodland. She enjoyed her job and was also an active member of St. John's Parish and rosary society, and a member of the 55 club. She was a past resident of the Woodland Gardens Apartments and Edgewood Vista Assisted Living. Over the years, Lil enjoyed card playing, camping, traveling, senior bus trips, and crocheting. She liked to make doilys for her children, grandchildren and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Justin; brother Holger; sisters Signe, Violet and Evelyn; son-in-law Dan Grew; and her granddaughter Colleen. Lil is survived by her five children: Nancy Grew, Bill (Yvonne); Bev (Den) Peters. all of Duluth, Bruce (Jane Pokorney) of Roseville, Minn. and Larry (Sheryl) of Duluth; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
