Lois S. Helewski, 94, lifelong Duluth resident, passed away on July 24, 2017 in Duluth with her family by her side. The eldest child of Edward and Hildur Sata, Lois grew up in Duluth's east hillside and was a member of the Duluth Central Class of 1940.
Lois had a long and fulfilling career with AT&T. She was a proud union member of the Communications Workers of America and the Telephone Pioneers. Lois was also a member of the American Legion and VFW auxiliaries and a founding member of the Lois Club. Lois previously attended Christ Lutheran Church.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law Dwight and Mary Sata, husband Daniel J. "Jim" Helewski, son Steven, and daughter Patricia Helewski.
Lois is survived by her son Daniel Jr. and his wife Carol, his son Joseph, and Joseph's children Zack and Shae; her daughter Linda Benedict and her husband Ralph; her son James and his wife Mary Vranesich; her son Kerry and his wife Lori, their son Brandon and his wife Caylin, and their son Daniel III and his wife Julia; her daughter Patricia's life partner Sue Mc Call; numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece Mary Stromdahl; cousins Bob Roberts and Joyce Haugland; and lifelong friends Vicky Olson, Janine Gerard, and Teddy Leacock.
Lois' son James wishes to thank the following people who have helped him provide Lois with an exceptional level of care over the past several years: the doctors, nurses, therapists, and caregivers, especially Dr. Mark Plachta, who will be remembered for their dedication to Lois' well-being; Lois' housekeeper and friend Colleen Peterson; Allan Myhre, John W. Radosevich, and Jason King, who kept Lois' yard looking great; and Karl W. Hansen, who willingly and without reserve, gave James all the time off from work he required to care for Lois.
Visitation will be Today from 5-7pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St. Duluth, MN, where visitation will continue Thursday from 1pm to the 2pm services.
