Lois McKinnon

September 23, 1926 — January 6, 2017

Lois McKinnon, 90, of Bemidji, MN and formerly Duluth, MN died January 6, 2017 at Neilson Place in Bemidji, MN.

Lois was born September 23, 1926 the daughter of Louis and Frances Klimek in Hermantown, MN.  She grew up in Hermantown and graduated from Hermantown High School.  After high school, she attended St. Scholastica’s nursing school in Duluth, MN.  It was while she was a nurse that she met her husband to be, William McKinnon, who had just returned to Duluth after his service in the Navy in World War II.  Bill and Lois were married June 9, 1951.  They lived and raised their family in Hermantown and Pike Lake and attended St. Raphael's Church in Hermantown.  Lois spent time as a nurse early in her career at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, then later in her career at Chris Jensen Nursing home in Duluth.  She moved to Bemidji in 2011 to live at Trillium Memory Care and Neilson Place.

Lois loved gardening, cooking, reading, singing and listening to music.  But most of all she loved being with her family at home and making it a loving and wonderful place for her family.

She is survived by her daughter Mary (Mike) Bailey of Seattle, WA; son Mike McKinnon of Hermantown; daughter Patty (Michael Butler) McKinnon of Vashon, WA; son Joe (Joan) McKinnon of Bemidji and son Tony (Robin) McKinnon of Eagan, MN; 8 grandchildren, Leif and Patrick Bailey; Nikki and Kristie McKinnon and Katie (Ryan) Hyllested and Connor, Dana and Devin McKinnon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Bill, son Mark, Cindy Parker – fiancé of son Mike, and grandson Cooper.

The family extends great thanks to the loving care from all the staff at Neilson Place and Trillium Memory Care in Bemidji.

The family will plan a funeral service later in Duluth. Condolences may be left at www.doughertyfuneralduluth.com .  Arrangements were entrusted to Dougherty Funeral Home in Duluth, MN.
