Lonnie David Lassman, 83, of Duluth, went to heaven on Saturday, March 22, 2014, after a courageous battle with alzheimers.
Lonnie was born on a farm in Humboldt, KS on February 21, 1931. He graduated from Concordia Seminary in 1957, and continued his education to be a chaplain. Lonnie married Carolyn Stottlemyer in Sept. of 1957 in Anna, Ohio. He then served at Christ Lutheran Church in Augusta, Kansas. They moved to Duluth in 1962 when Lonnie accepted a call to be a chaplain at St. Mary’s Hospital. Lonnie preached at various churches as a fill in during and after his time at St. Mary’s and was visitation pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church. Lonnie also preached at St. Ann’s and other nursing homes in the area.
Many people will remember Lonnie for his wonderful red raspberries.
Lonnie had a beautiful singing voice and sang for many years with the DSSO symphony chorus.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, one sister, and one great-grandchild, Julius. Lonnie is survived by his wife of 56 years Carolyn; children: David (Mary Beth) of Eden Prarie, Marie Lassman of Duluth, Preston of Cass Lake, and Leisa (Harrison) Dudley of Duluth; grandchildren: Cellie, Devon, Samantha, Classie, Tamara, Preston, Harrison, Tyler, Danielle and Lonnie; great-grandchildren: Matthew and Jayden; his siblings: Fred Lassman and Betty Freede. Visitation: 5-7 pm, Thursday, March 27th. at Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Friday, from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service at Family of God Lutheran Church, 4097 Martin Rd. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lonnie’s name are welcome at Second Harvest Food Bank or the Northern Minnesota Chapter of National Alzheimer’s Association.
