Lorraine Jeanette Makowski, 87, of Duluth died on Sunday, April 28, 2013 in the Benedictine Health Center with family by her side. She was born on June 7, 1925 in Duluth to Valere and Julia (Lagae) Plets. She grew up in Lakewood graduating from Lakewood School in 1943.
Lorraine married Roy Makowski in Duluth on June 22, 1946. She was a loving wife and mother who dedicated her life to her husband, children and grandchildren. Her passion was her family and she will be sadly missed by them all. She enjoyed reading, walking, and playing scrabble. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church volunteering for many activities including working at the Used-A Bit Store. She was also a member of the Duluth Firefighters Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy; her granddaughter, Jennifer Makowski; her brothers, Emil and Homer and her sisters, Martha and Margaret.
Survivors include her children, Katherine (Ronald) Hon of Duluth; John (Nancy) of Portland, MI; Joanne (Tom) Kozlowski of Duluth; Patricia (Kelly) Nelson of W. Valley City, UT; Carol Kosbab of Duluth; Elizabeth (David) Eklund of Duluth; Laurie (Robert) Riegel of Woodbury, MN; 18 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; her sister, Mary Dulinski of Duluth and her sister in-law, Virginia Plets of Duluth.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm Wednesday, May 1, 2013 in the Dougherty Funeral Home Chapel. The visitation will continue Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 10 am until the 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Gift of memorials will be forwarded by Lorraine's family to The American Cancer Society, Multiple Sclerosis Society or Alzheimer's Association.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
