Lowayne Flewell

Lowayne Powers Flewell, 94, of Duluth passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Ecumen Lakeshore, the Shores.  She was born in Morgan Park on May 10, 1923 to A.D. “Lon” and Mary Powers.

Lowayne graduated from Stanbrook Hall in 1941, and from St. Scholastica with a Medical Technology Degree in 1945.  She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital, Duluth Clinic as a Medical Technologist until her retirement in 1988.  Lowayne married Alaster “Bud” Flewell on September 4, 1948 in Duluth, MN.  She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Woman’s Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Duluth Republican Women.  Lowayne enjoyed listening to music, especially jazz music at the Saratoga on Saturdays, playing bridge, travel, golf, volunteering at St. Michael’s and Goodwill, being very active with the Republican Party, and she will be remembered for her endless love for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Kathy Grimm, brothers, Robert and Jack Powers; and the father of her children, Alaster “Bud” Flewell.

She is survived by her children, Kathy (Neal) Hessen, Kris (Paul) Weatherby, and Kevin (Sue Runnells) Flewell; 7 grandchildren; 10.5 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Jaap; sister-in-law, Sue Powers; and several nieces and nephews.

Lowayne's family wishes to thank the Ecumen Lakeshore staff and caregivers, as well as her North Country "Angels", especially Anita and Minnie.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 10AM until the 11AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.  4901 E. Superior St., Duluth, MN 55804.  Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
