Luella Anna Collicott of Federal Way, WA, previously of Duluth and Hibbing, MN passed away Monday, November 10, 2014. Luella was born to Carl John and Lola Louise (Emmerich) Anderson in Hibbing, MN, was raised in Hibbing and Duluth, MN, and lived in Seattle, WA, Ann Arbor, MI, West Lafayette, IN, and Federal Way, WA. She was married to and is survived by Howard Collicott, also currently of Federal Way, WA. Her siblings include Lyle Anderson of Nashville, TN, Velura Highberg of Winchester, VA, and Cheryl Hartley of Wichita, KS. Her brother William Carl Anderson preceded her in passing. She also leaves son Steven, of West Lafayette, IN, son Duane of Ann Arbor, MI, and daughter Susan, of Seattle, WA. Son David preceded her in death in 2009. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Sarah and Rachel Collicott, daughters of Steven, and William and Benjamin, sons of Duane.
Luella left Minnesota to work at Yellowstone National Park in the late 1940's, and soon after moved to Seattle, WA, with friends. While in Seattle in she worked as a civilian for the Navy. It was in Seattle she met her future husband, Howard Collicott, an engineer with Boeing. The two were married in 1954 in Duluth, MN, and continued to live in Seattle. Upon the arrival of children, she energetically adopted the job of mother and homemaker, becoming involved in the activities of all her children plus multiple civic and church volunteer efforts. As her children aged, she accepted employment in various tasks, both in Ann Arbor, and Federal Way.
Luella was a very active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor, MI, including countless hours in the church library cataloging and organizing the collection of books,a task she was very proud of. She was an energetic supporter and volunteer with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, including serving as a Girl Scout leader for many years. Howard and Luella had shared many sailing experiences in Seattle early in their marriage, and upon arriving in the Ann Arbor area they continued to sail with their family on Portage Lake for many years.
While in Ann Arbor, Luella was an active member of the Bendix Wives Club, a social group consisting of spouses of employees of the Aerospace Systems Division of the Bendix Corporation, where Howard worked. As her children aged, she returned to employment at various jobs in the Ann Arbor area. Following their return to the greater Seattle area in 1984, Luella continued to work for various employers. Since the 1990's, Luella and Howard have given generously of their time as volunteers with the McChord Air Museum at Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma, WA.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 10am with services at 11am in the Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St. Duluth, MN (218) 727-3555.
