Lynn Persons

December 9, 1946 — April 28, 2020

Lynn Marion Persons died peacefully Tuesday April 28th, 2020, at her home on Island Lake in Duluth, MN, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Lynn was born December 9th, 1946, to Paul and Lorraine Lanthier in Duluth, MN.  She graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1964.  While in high school, Lynn formed many friendships that remained strong throughout her life.  She was also proud to have earned the Girls Athletic Award.  Lynn graduated from UMD in 1968 with a B.S. in Secondary Education and held teaching certifications in Mathematics and Economics.

On August 10th, 1968, Lynn married her high school sweetheart, James George Persons.  They were married for 46 years until his death in 2014.  For both Lynn and Jim, their marriage and family were the source of so much love and happiness.

Lynn began her teaching career in Esko, MN, where she taught from 1970-1973.  Lynn spent most of her career teaching math in the Duluth schools, starting in 1987 at Woodland Junior H.S. and retiring from Duluth East H.S. in 2005.  Lynn loved math and enjoyed teaching it to others.

Lynn was a past member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Duluth Heights and most recently attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gnesen Township.

Lynn’s greatest joy was spending time with her late husband, children, grandchildren, extended family and many dear friends.  She enjoyed many activities throughout her life, including, time spent on Island Lake, gardening, sewing, golfing, biking, reading and book club, and many annual events and trips with friends.  Lynn loved entertaining and especially looked forward to holiday gatherings.  She always added a personal touch to make these times special, often ready with a fun game and favorite foods.  Later in life, Lynn found much joy in attending her grandchildren’s events.  Lynn touched many family and friends with her generous heart and joyful spirit.  She was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.

Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters Laura Bean and Paulette Beck.

Lynn is survived by her daughters Kristin (Jeff) Imsande of Menomonie, WI, and Kerri (James Kyes) Persons of Duluth, MN; grandchildren Kaylynn, Grant, Anna, Keegan, James, and Julia; and many beloved extended family members.

A private family service will be held at this time.  Inurnment and celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.  600 E. 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805.  218-727-3555.
