Madeline (Maddy) A. Roufs

Madeline (Maddy) A Roufs, 100, of Duluth passed away peacefully on Holy Thursday, April 14, 2022.  She was born the youngest of seven children to Phillip and Marie Bethune on June 16, 1921.  Maddy graduated from the Girls Cathedral High School. She went on to graduate from Duluth Beauty School in 1940 and became the owner and operator of Madeline's Beauty in Proctor, MN.  The shop was located in the basement of her home and it was a place filled with friendship, laughter and community. Maddy was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Proctor and a longtime active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Duluth Heights, where she was instrumental in starting the Women's Guild. 

Maddy was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, siblings George, William, Harry, Gordon, Charlotte and Margaret. She is survived by her children Mary (Kerry) Sopoci, Pat (Greg) Swor, George (Judy) Roufs Jim (Debbie) Roufs, and Nancy Christian. Grandchildren Mary (Kevin) Cornwell, Kate (Glen) Fellman, Jason (Sue) Swor, Jeff Swor, Alex (Katie) Roufs, Maddy Christian, Zelda Skyy, and Holly Christian, her beloved 9 great grand children, and several nieces and nephews.

Maddy's happiest times were spent with her family.  She always had hot coffee ready for a quick visit, a deep discussion, or to help her loved ones in any way she could.  She had a way of making each one of us feel as if we were the most important thing in the world to her. We were blessed to have Maddy for 100 years, and are forever changed by her kindness, faith, and love.

The family would like to thank the staff at Keystone Bluffs and Diamond Willow for their kind and compassionate care of Maddy.

Private family services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
