Madelynne Lane

May 8, 1958 — April 28, 2020

Madelynne A. Lane, 61 of Duluth, our beloved sister, auntie, cousin and friend, “Mady” passed from this earth on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 following hospitalization.

Mady was a kind hearted, gentle soul who truly loved those lucky enough to be a part of her life.  She was generous with her time and talents, and was the “in case of emergency” back up for large circle of family, neighbors, and friends.  One could always count on Mady to lend a hand whether it was home maintenance and repair, meals during time of need, childcare, or coffee and good conversation accompanied by favorite treats.  Mady did not seek material things in life, but sincerely valued her relationships with all.  She had an amazing capability to accept others – with all their human frailties – and was quick to forgive.  Mady made and kept friends with ease.

Mady was a graduate of Duluth East High School, Hibbing Area Vocational Technical School, and Vermilion Community College.  She ran the gauntlet of employ from lifeguard/swim instructor to deputy sheriff, and was last employed as a community service bus driver at the Fond du Lac reservation.  She was a dedicated, hard worker in employ, but her true work in life was providing care, comfort and meaning to the lives of those she loved.  Mady fulfilled her parents’ wishes by providing care in their home, as was their wish, until their deaths.

Mady’s most joyful times were at the family cabin on Eagles Nest Lake One where fishing, swimming, pontooning, blueberry picking, fabulous feasts, and competitive games of smear, cribbage, scrabble, and corn hole filled her days.  She always “won”.  Her time spent with others, especially her friend Janet (Paul) Dunnom and family, was time well spent.

Mady was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and George Lane, Jr., brother David (Diann, deceased) Lane, and her faithful companion, the Golden Retriever Charlie.  She is survived by her siblings; Patricia (George, deceased) Holliday, John (Suzan) Lane, Joel (Maxine Haus) Lane, Mary (Richard) LeDoux, Jeanne (Colin) Moon, Monica (Chris) Steele, George (Kathy) Lane and Julie (Patrick) Macor, and an enormous circle of Irish/Swedish clan relatives.

Mady attended the Vineyard Church, Duluth, where her faith, hope and love expanded exponentially.  A celebration of her short but well lived life will be on Friday June 11, 2021 at The Vineyard Church, at Noon with visitation in the church one hour prior to the service. 1533 W Arrowhead Rd. Duluth, MN 55811 .  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.  600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805.  218-727-3555.
