Madonna Marie "Non" Bergman, 82, Duluth, died on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 after a courageous struggle with a rare immune blood disorder.
She was born in Austin, Minn. January 24, 1931 to Irving H. and Dorcas G. (Newling) Weber and grew up in Lyle, Minn. Non was a graduate of Saint Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, Minn.
She married Melvin Bergman on Aug. 20, 1955, and they have been Duluth residents for the past 57 years.
After raising her family, she started the nursing re-certification program at VoTech, and gradually moved into Blue Cross Blue Shield as a medical records reviewer.
Non loved to spend time with her family at the Crane Lake family cabin. She was a world traveler, seeing all 7 continents. She was also a voracious reader and learner.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church.
Non was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband Melvin; children Tom (Becky), Lisa, Jim (Anne Marie), and Amy (David) Onken; grandchildren: Matt (Katherine), Andy (Jennie), Laura, John, Dan, Hannah, Tanner, Emily, Maddy and Grace; siblings: Jim (Helen) Weber, Mary (Jerry) Keenan, Sharon (Garry) Ellingson, Tricia (Jim) Mork and Kathy (David) Damjanovich.
The Bergman family would like to thank Dr. Goueli, Dr. Knuths, and the St. Luke's Oncology staff of 2W for their outstanding care.
Visitation: 4-6pm Sunday at Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Monday from 10am until the 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. John's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials directed to St. Luke's Hospital Foundation, designated to the Oncology Dept., or St. John's Catholic Church would be appreciated.
