Maj. Aloysius "Al" M. Cismowski, USAF ret. 94 died Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Lakeshore with his family by his side. Al was born July 8, 1921 in Duluth in to Agnes and Adam Cismowski. He joined the US Air Force, where he was a pilot who served in World War II and retired in 1965 as a Major. He flew on D-Day and made four drops on Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. Al returned to Duluth and ran for mayor. Until his passing Al could be found operating the Duluth Variety Store.
Al was a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, member of the Serra Club, Blessed Nuno Society. Al contributed much of his time and treasure into the construction of Queen of Angels Orphanage in Agua Prieta Mexico, and the Women's Care Center in Duluth, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Agnes and his sisters Marianne, Leona, Agnes, and Sister Norbert; brothers, Ben and Ed and grandchild Tommy.
His is survived by his wife, Gisel; children, Dennis (Susanne), Kevin (Marcia), Stephen (Lupita), Barbara (Gary) Tuch, Debbie (Joe) Kelly, Tina (Mark) Swader and Peggy (Gerry) Korpela; Grandchildren, Ana- Grecia, Sophia Marie, Crystal, Sean, Melanie, Jessica, Danielle, Brian, Joey, Mike, Christy, Jamie, Brian and Todd; numerous grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 pm with Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:30 pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Thursday from 9:00am to the 10:00am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 325 E 3rd St. Duluth. Burial with military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard at Calvary Cemetery.
The family request donations to the Blessed Nuno Society, PO Box 3484, Duluth, MN 55803, in lieu of Flowers.
Arrangements are handled by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St. Duluth, MN (218) 727-3555.
