Margaret Hughes Berg, 96, of Duluth passed away on Sunday October 19, 2014 in Essentia Health Miller-Dwan. She was born in Duluth to James and Margaret Lynch Hughes on February 6, 1918. Margaret was the last surviving child from a family of nine children. She graduated from Girls Cathedral High School in 1936. Margaret spent all but three years of her life when she lived in Seattle, WA, as a Duluth resident. She was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, and an enthusiastic supporter of St. Michael's Lakeside School. Margaret was a former employee of the Duluth Transit Company, and retired from UMD after 18 years of service in 1982.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Gerald "Bud", John, Patrick, Raymond, and Richard Hughes and sisters Nora (Edward) Curry, Mary (Mathew) Pearson, and Beverly (Harry) Roberts.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Joan Hughes, numerous special nieces and nephews, cousins, and her dear friend Rev. James Tobolski of Superior, WI.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday October 29, 2014 in Dougherty Funeral Home from 11AM until the Noon Funeral Service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Michael's Church, 4901 East Superior Street, Duluth, MN 55804.
