Marie Josephine Kenney, 83, of Duluth died peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 surrounded by her loving husband and children. She is now with her Savior. She was born August 14, 1930, in Dublin, Ireland, to William and Catherine (Jordan) King. She grew up in Dublin the youngest of 8 children and was known for her lovely singing voice. At a Dublin dance hall in 1952 she met and fell in love with an American Soldier, Michael Kenney. After a brief long distance romance they married and she was whisked away to the wilds of Northern Michigan and Minnesota. She became a US Citizen in 1977. Her warm nature made her beloved by all who met her. She could start a conversation with anyone she happened upon and they were happy for her company. She lived a deeply Catholic life and was active in her church; singing in the choir, serving in the kitchen, and preparing a generation of second graders for their First Communion. She stayed active enjoying bowling, golf, broomball, and volleyball. She and Michael recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. For her whole life her home was a magnet for her children, grandchildren, friends, and family to come and chat, have a cup of tea, a serious talk, or just a laugh.

Marie is survived by: her loving husband Michael Kenney; her loving children, David Kenney (Regina), Catherine Kromrie (Matthew), Michael Kenney (Jodie), Patrick Kenney, William Kenney (Carie), and John Kenney (Teresa); her treasured grandchildren, David, Kathleen, Regina, William, Jennifer, Theresa, Debbie, Tyler, Spencer, Emma, Michael, Ava, Theodore, Bridget, Patrick, Caitlin, Megan, Michael, Makayla, William, Malia, Carrick, Georgia, Peter, and David; her adored great-grandchildren, Kyle, Shawn, Ryan, Isabelle, and Kagan; her Brother Emmett King of Dublin, Ireland; her brother in law Charles Kenney of Pawpaw, Michigan, her sisters in law Jean Kenney of Escanaba, Michigan and Joan Veeser of Duluth, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. Marie and Michael are members of Saint Lawrence/Saint Joseph;s Catholic Church of Duluth. Marie will be deeply missed by her loving and adoring family. Visitation: 5-7 pm Wednesday, June 18th. with rosary recitation at 6:30 pm at Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation continues on Thursday from 10 am until the 11 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Catholic church, 151 W.
