Marie Sackmeister

Marie Catherine (nee Trudeau) Sackmeister, age 100, formerly of Duluth, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Centennial Villa - Park Place Cottage, Annandale, Minn. She was born July 14, 1913 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to Alexander and Mary Trudeau. She graduated from Misericordia School of Nursing in May 1935, and then moved to Duluth, Minn. for employment as an RN. Marie became a US citizen in 1942 and joined the US Army Nurse Corp in 1943 and was attached to the US Army Air Corps., serving in England and France during World War II. She had many adventures during this period of her life and met many life long friends. She was separated from the Army as a First Lieutenant in 1946. She went on to fulfill a career as a nurse and a loving wife and mother. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, husband Isidore, son Thomas, and granddaughter Michelle. Marie is survived by her son John (Vicki), daughter Judy (Steve); grandchildren: Jana (Jason), Teri (Ben), Steven (Beth), Stephanie, Blair (Rachael), and Nathan (Sarah); great-grandchildren: Harrison, Anna, Cassie, Gary, Atticus, Brennen, and Mina.
Visitation: 10 AM, Monday, August 19, 2013 until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 4901 E. Superior St., Duluth, Minn. Private burial at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to the Disabled American Veterans would be appreciated.
