Marilyn Andersen

September 2, 1931 — October 16, 2017

Marilyn Rosemarie Andersen, 86, passed on Monday, October 16, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was born on September 2, 1931 in Cloquet, Minn., and was raised there.  She became one of the first pioneering women to work for Northwest Paper (Sappi).  In 1956, she married Robert (Smokey) Andersen, and moved to Superior, WI.  Marilyn became a certified nursing assistant, and lovingly cared for her residents for 27 years.  Everyone who knew Marilyn, loved her for the way she cared about others, especially her grandkids.  Her humor was infectious.  The last several years she was cared for by her daughter Jodi, an angel herself.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Waino and Eleanor Palo, a brother Earl Burns, a sister Arlene Liupakka, and by her husband Robert in 1977.

Marilyn is survived by her four children, Nicole, Cary, Lisa, and Jodi, all of the Twin Ports; two grandchildren, Lucas Brown of Baltimore, MD and Dona Brown of Alborn, MN; and three great-grandchildren.

A special thanks to Essentia Health Hospice program for all their kindness and support, on behalf of Marilyn’s family.

VISITATION:  Friday, October 20, 2017 from 10 AM until the 11 AM funeral service at Dougherty Funeral Home.  Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Superior.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. Second St., Duluth, 218-727-3555.
