Mark Allen Brostrom, 55, of Duluth was welcomed into the arms of Jesus, whom he loved so much, on Friday, August 19, 2022. Mark was born April 16, 1967, to Bruce and Donna Brostrom in Duluth. He grew up in Munger and graduated from Proctor High School in 1985. He later graduated from Fond du Lac Community College with a degree in Law Enforcement and also a diploma in Corrections. In addition, Mark received a CNA certificate from Lake Superior College. He worked as a correctional officer at NERCC and was a CNA at Ecumen Lakeshore, Essentia Health ER, Trillium, and Choice Unlimited
Mark married Neema Mlay on March 3, 2007, in Christ the King Catholic Church in Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. Mark met Neema while doing mission work in Africa. He attended the River Church in Duluth. Mark was an extremely loving father and uncle. He absolutely loved kids! He enjoyed playing hockey in his youth. He especially enjoyed time spent with his children and family. He also enjoyed time spent outdoors, watching Western movies and reading Western novels, and was a wonderful and very creative cook, as well as an animal lover.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce.
He is survived by his wife Neema, children Malikia and Elijah, mother Donna Brostrom, siblings Gina DeVaney and Brian (Wendy) Brostrom, nieces and nephews Leif, Ian, and Michaela DeVaney, Cristina Brostrom, grand-niece Eireen DeVaney, his beloved Tanzanian family: mother-in-law Salome Daniel Christopher Mlay, late father-in-law, Daniel Christopher Mlay, brothers-in-law Epafra (Peter),Dismas, and Dustin Mlay, sister-in-law Devotha Nyello, nieces and nephews Eva, Hilary, Harrison, Bill, Beaty, Ben, Irene, Mamy, and Agripina. Very close friends Lida Msaki and the Msaki family, Cyprian and Onesmo Mallya, and Paul Kisuda.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022, from 10AM until the 11AM Memorial Service at the River Church, 1902 East 4th Street, Duluth, MN 55812. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund for Mark’s children has been established at Proctor Federal Credit Union. The family would like to thank the Dougherty Funeral Home for their compassionate care and exceptional service.
