Mary Adatte

October 7, 1924 — October 9, 2015

Mary Wakefield Adatte passed away on a crisp fall evening in her home at Ecumen Lakeshore on October 9, 2015.

Born and raised in Duluth, Mary met a young handsome man named Derrill Adatte whom she married for over fifty some years until his death in 2010. Together, they enjoyed the great north woods, and its beauty which they lovingly instilled upon their only son, Derrill John.

Mary was devoted to her faith and was a life long member of The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, a past auxiliary member and longstanding volunteer at St Mary's Hospital. She led a quiet life and enjoyed the comfort of owning enormous dogs, setting beautiful tables for holiday dinners, reading, gardening, knitting and searching for just the right recipe. She loved the warmth of the sun and passed along her interest in 'birding' to her grandson Chris and her interests of gardening and cooking to her granddaughter Anna. Mary was an active first mate to Derrill Sr for many years as they sailed their boat Conquesta around the big pond. An avid walker, Mary still enjoyed her evening strolls around the beautiful gardens of Lakeshore with her son up until a fall last month.

Preceded in death by her husband Derrill, parents Jesse and Mary Kathryn, siblings Robert, Dolly and Jane.

Mary is survived by her son Derrill (Liz), grandson Christopher and granddaughter Anna as well as many nieces and nephews and her beloved dogs ZuZu and Atlas.

Mary's family extends much gratitude to the loving and caring staff of Ecumen Lakeshore who was so kind to Mary and our family over the years.

Memorials may be made to the Maryknoll Sisters, Animal Allies or The Union Gospel Mission.

A private Memorial Mass will be held. Dougherty Funeral Home of Duluth is assisting the family.
