Mary Isabel Tod Brown, 81, passed away on 8/1/19 in Duluth, MN

Mary was born in Evanston, IL to Frances Lois Covault Tod and Allan Hyman Tod on 11/21/1937. She graduated from James Madison University 1957 with a B.A. in Business. She married Gregory Brown in 1963 in Chicago.

She worked as a traffic controller for radio station WBBM in Chicago during the 1960s and later in a variety of administrative positions in Michigan, New Jersey, and Alabama. She loved dogs, wildlife and bird watching, flowers and reading. Her favorite mystery writer was Sara Paretsky.

She was a life-long Episcopalian and one of the founders of Church of the Good Shepherd in Decatur, AL where she served on the vestry and arranged flowers for services. She was known for her blue bowl that she always brought to church potlucks filled with delicious salads. She was also involved in the Cursillo Movement and Kairos Prison Ministry. She was a volunteer reading tutor with the Boys and Girls Club and involved with Habitat for Humanity and the American Association of University Women.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Frances Lois Covault Tod and Allan Hyman Tod. Mary is survived by husband, Gregory; daughter, Aimee; daughter, Margaret Brown-Sica (David Sica); grandchildren, Francesca and Bruno Sica; sister, Jacqueline Eikner; nephews, Tod and Brad Eikner; and her friends and long-time community at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Decatur, AL.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Margaret Manderfeld, Elizabeth Liebenstein, Christine Sabol, Bill Van Oss, Steve Wlosinski, Bude VanDyke,  St. Paul's Episcopal Church (Duluth), Church of the Good Shepherd (Decatur, AL), the Benedictine Sisters of the St. Scholastica Monastery, and her wonderful caregivers and friends at the Benedictine Living Community and Benedictine Health Center.
