Mary Ann Lund, 90, of Virginia, died on June 30, peacefully surrounded by her family at the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth.
Mary was born in Genoa, MN to Charlotte and Emil Nalborski on September 17, 1925. She attended Virginia Roosevelt High School, graduating in 1944 and later earned her cosmetology degree at the Duluth Beauty School. On September 13, 1947 she was united in marriage to Edward Otto Lund until his death in 1990.
After raising her four children in Virginia, Mary worked at Westwind Orchards and as an assistant manager at the House of Fabrics at the Thunderbird Mall. She was known for her fabulously productive raspberry "patch" with transplanted plants that her father started decades earlier. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed relaxing at her cabin time on Lake Vermilion – especially fishing for walleye. She will be forever remembered by family and friends for her blueberry pancakes, delicious pasties, and "perfect crust" apple pie.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlotte & Emil Nalborski; her husband, Edward; son, John Edward Lund and granddaughter Amber Patrick.
Mary is survived by three children, Kathy Bement (Don Manseau) of Virginia, Nanci (Paul) Damberg of Proctor, MN and Jim (Kathy) of Arlington Heights, IL. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Cherie Grutzmacher, Keith Lehman, Michelle Cunningham, Miles Lund, Vince Lund and Athena Lund and three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Virginia and the Benedictine Health Center of Duluth for their support of Mary in her final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life service on August 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Virginia Holy Spirit Church followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery.
