Mary Margaret (Krmpotich) Pogorelec, 88, died peacefully on June 15, 2015 while residing at the Jewish Home Care Center in Milwaukee, WI. Mary was born and lived in Duluth up until 2007 when she moved to Menomonee Falls, WI. Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother and lifelong learner. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, raising chickens, beekeeping and all things related to nature particularly birds and animals. She was an avid reader and enjoyed classical music and attending symphony concerts. Mary always had a cup of coffee and baked goods ready for any visitor and always provided hospitality to all who entered her home.
Mary traveled and enjoyed many adventures before marrying her husband of fifty-one years, Fred, who died in 2006. Both were active members of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church where Mary spent many hours preparing food in the church kitchen, teaching religious education classes and serving as an ambassador to a church-sponsored Hmong family. She was also a member of the Slovenian Women's Union, Branch 33.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Katherine (James) Knobbe of Centennial, CO, and Janice (William) Falkenberg of Menomonee Falls, WI; brother, Nicholas (Lillian) Krmpotich of Waukesha, WI; and sister, Katherine Stinson of Brookfield, WI; two granddaughters, Lauren and Haley Knobbe; and one grandson Samuel Falkenberg.
Visitation will be held from 10AM until the 11AM Mass of Christian Burial with a Rosary Recitation at 9:30AM on Monday July, 13, 2015 in St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 622 99th Ave. West, Duluth, MN 55808. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery Duluth. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Loaves & Fishes, 1614 Jefferson St, Duluth, MN 55812.
