Mary Ann Salstrand

Mary was born in Port Huron, MI on January 13, 1932 to Capt. Matthew and Bertha (Poland) Crawford and died September 27, 2023 in Duluth, MN

She moved to Duluth in 1944 and graduated from Stanbrook Hall in 1949. She attended Duluth Business College and then worked at the Duluth Housing and Redevelopment Authority, The Duluth News Tribune and was the Vice President of Salstrand Supply.

She married George Salstrand at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Duluth, on December 27, 1952. They lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Duluth, MN and then moved to Keewatin, MN in 1966 where they raised 6 Children- Ann, David, Cathy, Tom, John and Pat.

She was a long standing member of St.Mary’s Catholic Church in Keewatin where she was active in CCW and St. Catherine’s Circle.

She moved to Hibbing, MN in 2010 and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.

Mary enjoyed many book clubs, bridge clubs, birthday clubs and dance club.

For her final years, she moved to Ecumen Lakeshore in Duluth, MN where she was lovingly cared for by the staff and residents.

She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Jim) Streiff; sons, Tom (Tammy) Salstrand, John (Connie) Salstrand, Pat (Mary Hegland) Salstrand; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren (one more on the way); daughter-in-law, Rita Carlisle; son-in-law, Jim Levstek; many nieces, nephews, special Colorado family members, and sisters-in-law, Margaret Blin and Barbara Crawford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; daughter, Ann Levstek; and son, David Salstrand; her parents, Capt.Matthew and Bertha Crawford; sister, Jane Bourassa; and brothers, Matthew and David Crawford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00am on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at St. Michael’s Church, 4901 E. Superior St, Duluth with a Visitation beginning at 10:00am. Interment at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
