Mary Seitz

July 21, 1928 — April 17, 2016

Mary Elizabeth (Rayn) Seitz, 87, of Duluth, died Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Diamond Willow Lester Park after her illness with Alzheimer's. One of "The Rayn Twins", she was born July 21st, 1928 in Minneapolis to Hollis and Irene (Bhanke) Rayn. At an early age she moved to Duluth. She attended Washburn School and graduated from Stanbrook Hall in 1946. She attended Rockford College and D.B.U. Mary worked for Kelly Furniture and U.S. Steel at the Morgan Park Office.
In 1951, she married Jack (Red) Seitz in a double wedding with her twin sister Jean.
After raising three boys she worked at Livingston's Big Duluth and Allenfalls. She was a volunteer at many charity events. She was a past member of the Duluth Curling Club and Ridgeview Country Club, and a lifetime member of Pilgrim Congregational Church.
She and her husband spent many winters in Florida after their retirement.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Jean Ferguson; brothers-in-law John Mellin and Byron Ferguson; nephew Bob Mellin; and sister-in-law Betsy Seitz.
Mary is survived by her husband of 65 years "Red"; sons: Bill (Mary), Jim (Alice) and Rick (Sue); grandchildren: Julie (Sullivan) Seitz, Amy Derosier, Jennifer Brucklemyer, Jon Seitz, Billy Seitz, Jamie Knutson, Steve Seitz, and Christine Clark; twelve great-grandchildren; nephews: Tom, John and Peter Mellin; and brother-in-law Gordon Seitz.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Diamond Willow for their daily commitment and compassion for ensuring the comfort of Mary while she was in their care.
Visitation: 5-7 PM Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Dougherty Funeral Home.
