Mary G. Zakula, 90, of Duluth, passed away on Monday April 11, 2016 in Essentia Health, St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born in South Range, WI on February 1, 1926 to Theodore and Sophie Galovich. Mary married Deslove Zakula on August 6, 1950 in Duluth. She was a devoted mother, and Baba (grandmother). She enjoyed baking and cooking Serbian delicacies, time spent with her family, and especially her twin grandchildren. Mary was a talented gardener and artist. She enjoyed time spent with her friends at coffee parties. Mary was a founding member of Mala Gospojina Serbian Orthodox Church, its ladies circle and church choir. The family wishes to thank Essentia Health, St. Mary's Medical Center for the excellent care she received, and the exceptional staff at Edgewood Vista.
Mary was preceded in death by her son Jamie, parents, sisters Soph Uzelac, and Millie Pavlovich.
Mary is survived by her husband of almost 66 years Deslove, son George, daughters Stephanie (Tad) Forsell, and Melissa Rosin, grandchildren Zachary and Melana Rosin, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday April 14, 2016 from Noon until the 1PM Funeral Service in Dougherty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home. 218-727-3555. 600 E. 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805.
