Michael Johnson

Michael Leon Johnson, 57, of Duluth died on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 in St. Luke's Hospital following a tragic motorcycle accident with a deer.

Michael was born on Sept. 15, 1955 in Fairbanks, AK to Herbert and Patricia (Blackwell) Johnson. He grew up in Grand Rapids, MN and graduated from Clover Valley High and went on to graduate from UMD with a degree in teaching. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman, athlete, teacher specializing in special education, coach, umpire and referee be loved father, grandfather and brother. He taught and coached football at Duluth East High School, he was employed many years at Lake Superior Paper Industries and he served as Development Director for Minnesota Teen Challenge for three years.

He was a devout Christian who gave generously of his time to others and shared his faith thru his church, The Vineyard and his motorcycle club The Seeds of Abraham. He was beloved by so many and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his children, Harmony (Travis) Madden of Portsmouth, VA; Joshua Johnson of Duluth; Jacob (Tamyra) Johnson of Virginia Beach, VA; his grandchildren, Vaughn, Brock, Benjamin, Grady and Scarlett; his sister, Sandra (Robb) Morris of New Prague, MN; his nieces, Kathryn and Alexandra and his nephew, Eric.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 1, 2013 the Duluth Vineyard Church, 1533 W. Arrowhead Road in Duluth. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

A party to celebrate Michael's life will follow the service.

Interment will take place in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
