Michael Morley Spencer

Michael Morley Spencer, longtime resident of Cloverland, Wisconsin, died suddenly on December 22, 2O24. He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Lenz, of Cloverland, Son Kevin Putzke (Kerry), of Taichung, Taiwan as well as grandchildren Hunter Putzke, (Maria Grandoni) Fitchburg, WI, Katharina Putzke-Nevitt (Drew Nevitt) Middleton, WI, and great-granddaughter Tessa Julie Nevitt. 

Surviving him also are brothers Marshall Spencer, Tennessee, and David Spencer (Suzanne), Duluth and sister Mary Spencer Caldwell (Larry Caldwell), Sioux Falls, as well as many nieces and nephews in the US and abroad.

Born July 16, 1948, in Duluth, MN, Michael was preceded in death by parents, Lisbeth V. and George H. Spencer, brother Jonathan M. Spencer and sister-in-law Ann Spencer (Marshall).

After graduation from East High School, Duluth, he attended Denver College and UMD. He totally enjoyed his work and colleagues at RBC, (Dain Bosworth) until his retirement.

As with all avid canoeing and outdoor preservation enthusiasts of the Spencer family, Michael loved canoeing and spending family time on Wisconsin’s Brule River. In addition to planting acres of trees, he produced many bins of compost as did his father before him! 

Michael’s interests included playing active roles in The Western Wisconsin Land Trust and Brule River Preservation; philanthropically, he and Patricia have been acting as donor advisors to the Anshinabe Fund of the Duluth Superior Community Foundation for many years and supported Tweed Museum of Art, Duluth Art Institute, and Depot Foundation programs.

Memorials in Michael’s name would be welcome to: Brule River Preservation or the Anshinabe Fund of the Duluth Superior Community Foundation.
