Michalina Maria Piasecki “Mikey”, 96, of Duluth, passed away July 25, 2017.
Michalina was born July 6, 1921 to Pawel and Cecylia Bedz, in Chorzow, Jaroslaw, Poland. During WWII she worked in Germany in harsh conditions as forced labor along with thousands of other Poles. She met her future husband Felix after the war and was married in 1947. Rather than returning to Poland they immigrated to the U. S. in 1949 with their infant son. Michalina worked at the Pickwick Restaurant for 49 years mainly as a cook, retiring at the age of 79.
She belonged to St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church, and the Polish National Alliance.
Her passion was taking care of and spending time with family and friends. She loved cooking, especially for family dinners.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Felix; sons, Chester, and George; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Michalina is survived by sons, Edward (Karin), and Richard (Jackie); grandchildren, Sarah (Paul) Mershart, Kristie Woolverton, Julia, Edward Jr. (Kristine), Michael, and Jenny; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Her family would like to thank the caretakers at Ecumen Lakeshore, and especially her home care provider Kathy Schmidt.
Visitation will be 5PM until the 6:30PM rosary Friday, July 28, 2017 in the Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805. Visitation will continue at 10 AM, Saturday, July 29, 2017 until the 11AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea, 325 E 3rd St, Duluth, MN 55805, Burial in Polish Catholic Cemetery.
