Mike A. Chesney, 96, of Woodland Ave. died Monday, November 25, 2013 at the Benedictine Health Center. Mike was born September 20, 1917 in Duluth to Josef and Kathryn Chesney. He graduated from Central High School and completed two years of Business College. Mike married his childhood sweetheart Betty Nelsen on June 5, 1944. He worked as an electrician for several construction companies and also taught electricity at the VOTEC for 17 years. Mike was a very active member of St. John's Church in Woodland, doing projects or what ever needed to be done. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 242 and VFW post 137. Mike also was an avid outdoorsman.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Josef and Kathryn; and his siblings, Frankie, John, Walter, Pete, Ed, Mary, Celia, Sophie, Annie and Frances.
Mike is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Doug (Mary) Chesney of Arlington, WA; daughter, Nancy (Mick Gardiner) Chesney of Mpls; grandchildren, Brian M., Thomas R. and Josef C. and great grandson, Gabriel.
Mike's family would like to thank the staff of the Benedictine Health Center for their loving care of Mike. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-6pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Saturday from 10am to the 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. John's Church, 4230 St. John's Ave. Duluth, MN 55803.
Burial will follow with Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard at the Polish Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to St. John's School, 1 W Chisholm St. Duluth, MN 55803.
