Msgr. O'Shea

Monsignor Lawrence Michael O'Shea, aged 80, died at the Benedictine Health Center on April 4, 2013. He was born in Listowel County Kerry, Ireland on September 29, 1932 to Gerard and Margaret (Guiry) O'Shea. His education included high school and college years at Christian Brothers in Drogheda, Ireland; he went on to seminary at All Hollows in Dublin.
He was ordained to the priesthood on June 17, 1956 at All Hallows Chapel in Dublin, Ireland. He came to the Diocese of Duluth on September 4, 1956.
Monsignor O'Shea served at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Cloquet; St. John the Evangelist, Duluth; St. Joseph Church , Grand Rapids; St. Louis Church, Floodwood; St. Margaret Mary Church, Morgan Park; St. Mary Star of the Sea, Duluth; Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, Duluth; St. Philip Neri Church, Saginaw and St. Raphael Church, Duluth.
He also served in many other capacities over the years including; Priest Personnel Board, Vicar General, Diocesan Financial Officer, Chancellor, and Episcopal Vicar for Finance and Administration. In recognition of all his labors on behalf of Catholic and non-Catholics, he was named "Monsignor" by Pope John Paul II on December 23, 2005.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Maura and Bernadette.
Survivors include his brother, Brendon (Merci) O'Shea; his nephew Barry O'Shea and his nieces, Adrienne O'Shea and Aoife O'Shea all of Ireland.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Monday, April 8 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, 2801 East 4th Street, with a Rosary at 7:30 pm. Visitation continues from 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 9, until the 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Duluth.
