Nellie Elvira Hopper, 104, of Duluth passed away on Sunday November 5, 2017 at Marywood Assisted Living. She was born on September 24, 1913 to Carl and Vendla Johnson in Manson, IA. Nellie was a 1931 graduate of Moose Lake High School. She married Paul W. Hopper from Middletown, OH on October 9, 1943 while he was stationed in Duluth with the Coast Guard. Nellie was formerly a member of Chester Park United Methodist Church, and currently a member of Glen Avon Presbyterian Church. She began her working Career in the Duluth Board of Trade and retired from the Duluth City and County Employee Credit Union in 1977. She loved traveling, bowling, gardening, hiking, and was a member of the Golden Arrow Travel Club for many years, Arrowhead Hiking Club, Buoys and Gulls of Park Point and A.A.R.P.
She was preceded in death by her Husband Paul, sisters Viola Harkins and Vivian Leavitt.
She is survived by a sister Leone Kinseth, and sisters-in-law Alma (Melvin) Tenebroeke of MI, and Laverne Hopper of TX, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday November 16, 2017 at 1:30PM at Sunrise Memorial Park. 4798 Miller Trunk Hwy. Hermantown, MN 55811. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd St. Duluth, MN 55805. 218-727-3555.
