Oscar Nelson, 96, a lifelong resident of Duluth passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in his home in Woodland. He was a proud WWII veteran who served in Alaska and was being readied for the potential land invasion of Japan when the war ended.
Oscar was a professional painter well known for his ability to take on challenging high jobs (such as the Aerial Lift Bridge) as well as quality home projects. His recent fall from an extension ladder at the age of 95 was most bothersome to him.
He was a man of strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ believing that all things were possible if we only believed.
Oscar enjoyed hunting and fishing at his Murphy Lake property in Brimson, MN. More recently he was actively involved in the building of the Wilderness North Lodge which was on his previously owned property.
Oscar is survived by his wife Jan; his two nephews, Gary Anderson of Colorado Springs, Co. and Ken Nelson of Duluth, and their families.
A private memorial celebration of his life is planned.
Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth, 727-3555.
