Otto Ohr

May 3, 1919 — January 19, 2017

Otto Ohr, 97, of Duluth, the beloved uncle of Mara Minwegen and great-uncle of Katherine Minwegen, went home on Thursday, January 19. He was born in 1919 in St. Paul, Minnesota, and was the much-admired older brother of Adeline, who all her life told fond stories of their adventures as children. He served with the United States Coast Guard during WWII, and had a distinguished career with Honeywell as an engineer after attending Dunwoody Institute. He loved the outdoors, swimming, skiing and canoeing. Among his proudest accomplishments was working on the computers that were used during the first moon landing. He took care of his mother, Rosa, his brother, Richard, and maintained the beautiful home built by his father, Frank Ohr, in 1926. Otto was a role model and friend to his niece, Mara, teaching her to ski and to never waste an opportunity to have an adventure. He loved Kate and watched her grow up with great joy. We will think of him with love and gratitude always.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church, 4230 St. John’s Avenue Duluth, MN 55803 at 10:30AM.  Entombment will take place at 3:00PM at Calvary Cemetery, 753 Front Ave, St. Paul, MN.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.  218-727-3555, 600 E. 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805.
