Pearl Byrns

March 23, 2012 — February 12, 2019

Pearl Elizabeth Byrns,6-year-old miracle daughter of Sara and Tim Byrns of Duluth, died Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Essentia St. Mary’s with her family by her side. Pearl was born in Duluth on March 23, 2012 with Patau Syndrome, a rare chromosomal disorder.

Given Pearl’s prenatal diagnosis she was not expected to survive her birth, but she did. Once born, she statistically had a 90% chance of dying before age one, yet she lived. Against unbelievable odds, Pearl thrived for almost 7 years. Those years were filled with immense joy for all those who loved her. Pearl’s constant happiness and contentment was infectious, and it set the world ablaze with the most wonderful of colors and light. Pearl met many significant challenges along her amazing journey and she did so with extraordinary strength and grace. As she overcame each obstacle she always came back with a triumphant smile and a knowing twinkle in her eye.  Her resilient spirit will live on in many hearts. Pearl was a kindergartner at Minnehaha Elementary School in Two Harbors. She had so much fun at school. Long before you could see her, you knew she was coming down the hall because of her wonderful singing for all to hear. Pearl loved holding hands, laughing, exploring, snuggling, getting and giving kisses, going for car rides, swinging, and swimming. She loved being outside and feeling the sun, the wind and the snow on her beautiful face. She was very curious and determined to discover all that was offered to her. Pearl loved spending time with her family; especially her two sisters, as well as her puppies, Mojo and Bodhi. Pearl is survived by her loving parents, Sara and Tim; sisters Winter Grace and Parker Rose; grandparents, Clifford and Sylvia Hay and Frank and Francine Byrns; great grandmother, Mary Byrns; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Pearl’s remarkable life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30th at Peace United Church of Christ, 1111 N 11th Ave E, Duluth, MN 55805. Family and friends will be received immediately following the service. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home 218-727-3555.
