Peter Scharber Weidman

Peter “Pete” S. Weidman, 69, died unexpectedly at his home on February 5, 2024. He was born in Rochester, MN to Dr. William & Betty (Burgess) Weidman.

Pete graduated from UMD with a degree in environmental technology. He spent 22 years at WLSSD before moving to the private sector with Ayres Associates, MSA and RJS Construction.  He finished his career with Lakehead Constructors in Superior, WI.

Pete was actively involved in many civic activities, including chair of the Duluth Chamber of Commerce, a board member of Hartley Nature Center, the Duluth Maritime Club, and an active member of Duluth Rotary Club #25, along with many others.

Pete loved the outdoors, skiing, biking, swimming, and hunting. In 2000, he married the love of his life, Jan. After retirement in 2018, they moved north and built their dream home on beautiful Strand Lake. Pete was always passionate about water quality issues and made sure he was at every meeting that was pertinent to the Lake.

 Pete was a wonderful, giving, compassionate man who would do anything for anyone. He had a magical personality that could light up a room and everyone in it. 

He is sadly and lovingly survived by his wife, Jan; son, Jeremy (Andrea) Weidman; step kids, Chris Martino, Joe & Laura Norris; grandchildren, Maddy, Zach and Hazel Weidman; siblings, Kristen Hoffman, Kevin Weidman, Jeff (Judy) Weidman; brother-in-law, Patrick (Louma) Hartigan, nieces and nephews, Ben, Elizabeth & Paul Weidman, and Nyla Hartigan; numerous friends, neighbors, colleagues; and 13 year old Tasha, the Wonder Dog. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 16^th at 1:00 p.m. with a Visitation starting at 12noon in Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E Second Street, Duluth, MN. The service will be live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/dfhduluth. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Hartley Nature Center.
