Ralph Rovinsky

Ralph Leonard Rovinsky, 84, of Duluth, died peacefully in his home on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012. He was born on Aug. 22, 1928 in Menominee, MI to Cosmos and Romilda (Reindel) Rovinsky.

Ralph was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War. Following his service to country he sailed the great lakes with US Steel as an engineer for 20 years, sailing on the William Irvin from 1945 to 1969 and many other vessels throughout his career. Ralph married Barbara Srozinski in 1967. After retiring from sailing he represented the members of the MEBA and AMO union for 4 years. He continued his career in the industry as a ship surveyor for 18 years with Lloyds of London and German Lloyds and other insurance companies until his retirement at the age of 64.

Ralph was a member of St. Benedicts Catholic Church. Some of his hobbies included target shooting, working on antique old engines, studying the civil war and listening to classical music.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Robert, Eugene, William and sisters, Valerie and Gladys.

Survivors include his spouse, Barbara; his children, Michael (Michele) of Grand Rapids, MN; Robert (Murni) of Royersford, PA; Steven (Gail) of Stillwater, MN; Sherry (Craig) of Dallas, TX; 9 grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 in St. Benedicts Catholic Church. A visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral in the church.

Military honors accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.

Interment in Calvary Cemetery.
