RAYMOND A. LONG
Raymond Long, 87, of St. Ann's Residence of Duluth, went to be with his Lord on February 2, 2015.
Ray retired from First Bank of Duluth after 35-1/2 years, and also served as the organist and choirmaster at St. Edward's Episcopal Church for 44 years, previously serving other local churches, beginning in high school. After retiring, he and his wife volunteered at the East Food Shelf for 15 years and enjoyed traveling around the U.S. and Canada in their motor home.
Ray graduated from Duluth Central in 1945 and attended Duluth State Teacher's College, then entered banking and took several banking courses. In addition, Ray studied piano with Ruth Van Appledorn and organ with Ruth Alta Rogers.
Ray was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Margaret (Galarneau), his parents and three sisters, Margaret (Milton) Sandberg, Jane (Robert) Marjamaa and Alice (Gerald) Anderson.
Ray is survived by very special friends Richard and Linda Warner and their sons Chris and Jason and families; nieces and nephews Carol (Dr. Brian) Saine of Mishawaka, Ind., Dr. Robert (Joanne) Anderson of Lexington, Ky., Mary Dolquist of Prior Lake, Minn., Bonnie Anderson of Eden Prairie, Minn., Dr. Susan (Dr. Lathrop) Johnson of Muncie, Ind. and James (Ethel) Sandberg of Walden, Colo.; and many great- and great-great nieces and nephews.
A sincere thank you to the staff in the cardiac ICU and on 2-West at St. Luke's, Dr. JeRay Johnson and Dr. Christopher Baumbach, as well as to the clergy and staff at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials preferred to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1710 E. Superior Street, Duluth, Minn. 55812.
