Regis Halgren, 93, of Duluth, Minnesota, passed peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2024.
She was born February 21, 1931, at home in Alborn, Minnesota, the middle child of Louis and Marie (Edwards) Tremblay.
Regis was a graduate and salutatorian of the 1948 class of Alborn High School. She enhanced her education by attending Hursh Business College in Duluth. Upon graduation she worked for R.C. Bruen Company and Pickands Mather & Co.
On September 10, 1955, she married Robert E. Halgren. She and Bob were active and faithful members of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd until his death in 1978. In 1981, Regis joined the staff at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd as Financial Secretary and, after 30 loyal years, retired on her 80th birthday in 2011.
During her daughters’ educational years, Regis participated in Rockridge, Ordean and East PTAs and Brownies, and she chauffeured for piano and dance lessons. She was a fan of UMD hockey games at the DECC and engaged in team bowling, bridge club and class reunions. She was an accomplished seamstress, avid knitter and excellent cook. She enjoyed singing with the Svenska Sångarna (Swedish Singers Choir of Duluth), quilting with the gals at Good Shepherd, and weekly volunteering in the Gift Shop at St. Mary’s Hospital. Travel was a big part of her life, having been on several cruises in addition to visiting Australia and New Zealand, China, Europe (including the British Isles twice, Scandinavia, and various European cities), Canada and many points of interest in our great land of America. Many idyllic days were enjoyed with family and friends at the family cabin on beautiful Sand Lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, her brothers Leonard, Edward and Joseph Tremblay, and her sister Mary Reifsnider. Regis is survived by her two daughters, Lori Halgren (Dan) Johnson of Duluth and Kathy Halgren of Woodbury, Minnesota, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
If desired, memorials may be given to the Duluth Playhouse, the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, September 10, at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1325 N. 45th Ave. E., Duluth, with visitation one hour prior. The burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the attentive and considerate staff at Keystone Bluffs and the exemplary caregivers of Essentia Health Hospice for the compassionate support and kindness given to our mother during her final journey.
