Richard “Dick” Thomas Hable, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital at the age of 76. A lifelong Duluthian, he was born January 5, 1943 to Rudolph and Adeline (Eklund) Hable and was a graduate of Cathedral High School.
Dick had worked in the local grocery store business all of his life, including Piggly Wiggle where he kept an elaborate display of tropical fish. He was also employed part time as a farrier and drove horse drawn sleighs and carriages. He enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, and playing tennis. His quiet strength and mischievous sense of humor will be missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his former wife Cheryl Bodin Hable. Richard is survived by his daughter Dawn (Tom) Spielman of Minneapolis, his grandchildren Riley and Madison; his sisters Grace Hable and Rose (Jim) Anderson, both of Duluth; his brother Rudy (Alverna) Hable of Cloquet; nieces; Kathy Tusken of Duluth, Patty Hable of Minneapolis, Mary Heppelmann of Dover, MA, and Jeane Binney of Bowie, MD and nephews; Jamie Bodin of Woodbury, Ken Bodin of River Falls, Kurt Bodin of Duluth, and Rich Anderson of Seattle, WA. and many other family and friends. Visitation: Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 10 Am until the 11 AM funeral service at Dougherty Funeral Home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
