Richard "Dick" G. Hadrich, 66 of Duluth died Wednesday, February 17, 2016 in Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center after a short illness with family members by his side.
Dick was born March 22, 1949, in Duluth to Richard and Elizabeth Hadrich. He graduated from Duluth Cathedral High School and joined the US Marines, where he was known as a distinguished marksman. He received technical training in Fort Monmouth, NJ, and served stateside during the Vietnam War.
He worked for the United States Postal Service and retired as a window clerk in 2004, having worked at a number of stations throughout Duluth. He rarely missed a day of work.
Richard married Diane Kvande in Duluth on May 20, 2000. They made their home in Lakeside. With Richard in charge of the household, there was never a shortage of food or his delicious cooking. His practical deeds of love were unlimited.
He was an avid reader and outdoorsman. He enjoyed pheasant and duck hunting, shooting trap at the Proctor Gun Club, the annual United Northern Sportsman's dinner, camping, canoeing, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, visiting Minnesota state parks and listening to country music, especially Johnny Cash. Dick was a proud member of the NRA; a knowledgeable resource on sporting equipment; the uncle who always brought the favored treats; a wonderful son- and brother-in-law. He was very proud of his family and his service to his country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Elizabeth; his sister, Frances Houle; niece, Lenore Houle; and father-in-law, Selmer Kvande.
Dick is survived by his wife, Diane; their daughter, Josephine; his grown children, Weston and Donna; siblings, Evelyn (Ted) Windus, Phyllis (Duane) Bosiacki, and John (Brenda) Hadrich; mother-in-law, Cecilia Kvande; sister-in-law, Carol (Jon) Englund and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Monday from 10am to the 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael's Church, 4901 E Superior St. Duluth, MN. Burial with military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard at Calvary Cemetery will follow. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E 2nd St. Duluth, (218) 727-3555.
