Richard Jacob Walkowiak of Rice Lake, MN passed away on March 18, 2025. He was born November 4th, 1938 in Duluth, MN. Rich was a fun loving man who enjoyed a full life of fishing, playing cards, and entertaining people by playing his accordion. He was a veteran of the Army national Guard of MN. from 1956 through 1965. He worked for the DWP Railroad for 43 years. As a carpenter, he build several houses, barns and mended a few fences. He celebrated 43 years of Sobriety, was active in AA, and has helped many people with addictions of their own.
Richard is survived by his son, Dean (Amy) Walkowiak; grandchildren, Ashley (Lucas) Goble and Amber (Jesse Rose) Walkowiak; great grandchildren, Kylie, Kendall and Aria; brother, Joseph (Lynn) Walkowiak; sister, Joany (Rodger) Primm; and sister-in law, Peggy Walkowiak; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Walkowiak; son, Kyle Walkowiak; grandson, Devan Walkowiak; parents, Jake and Gladys Walkowiak; sister, Lorraine (Carter) Godwin, and brother, Daniel Walkowiak.
The family would like to thank the staff at Essentia Health for the wonderful care received and allowing Richard to play his accordion in the critical care unit before passing happy, content, and peacefully.
A Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at St. Joseph’s - Gneson Catholic Church, 6110 Church Rd, Duluth. The Visitation will continue at Church on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 from 10am to the 11am Mass of Christian Burial.
