Robert "Bob" Beaudin, 72, of Duluth, died surrounded by his family on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, in the Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Duluth.
Bob was born on April 17, 1940, in Duluth to Emmett and Bette (Yernberg) Beaudin. He was a graduate of Denfeld high school. Bob was employed at US Steel until its closing. While working for US Steel, he attained his college degree from UMD. Following the death of JFK, he was inspired to become a public servant. He was elected to the city council and served as its president. While serving as the Duluth City Counsel President, he was appointed Mayor and then was elected, serving until 1979. He went on to work for UMD's Natural Resource Research Institute in economic development until his retirement.
Bob was a DFL'er through and through, and worked hard for people's jobs and rights. He was a former member of the DECC board of directors, the UMD Bulldog Club, and a member of Sand Point Yacht Club.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his children, Sean (Mila) Beaudin of Esko, MN; Shelley (Marty) Herman of Duluth; Sharyl Beaudin of Duluth; Shannon (Tom) Klein of St. Paul, MN and Shane (Terri) Beaudin of Eagan, MN; his grandchildren, Amanda (Dan), Alex, Katelyn, Robert and Julia; his siblings, Jackie (Larry) Morris of Duluth; Susan (Lance) Fleischauer of Lakeland, MN and Earl (Barb) Beaudin of Duluth; several nieces and nephews and many colleagues and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm, Thursday Jan. 17, 2013, in the Dougherty Funeral Home Chapel, and will continue Friday Jan. 18, 2013 from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Funeral Service in the Harborside Convention Center at the DECC.

Interment will be in the Union Cemetery at a later date.
