Robert "Bob" L. Nordland

Robert “Bob” L. Nordland, 93 of Duluth, died Thursday, Sept. 21st in his home, with his family by his side.  Bob was born March 24, 1930, in Duluth to James and Esther Nordland.  He was a Duluth Central Graduate.  He served his country in the US Air Force Armament during the Korean War.   Bob met Mary “Dolores” Lovshin in 1954 and they were married on May 25, 1957.  Bob worked as a pressman and Production Manager for Service Printers for almost 50 years.  He was a very active member of St. John’s Church, volunteering countless hours for events, community service and support of its members.  He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was awarded the Knight of the Year Award in 2010 and continued to serve until his passing.  The City of Duluth awarded Bob the “Golden Shovel” for his volunteer work shoveling snow in the community.  Bob enjoyed the Lake Avenue Loafers, driving his 1966 Mustang to classic car gatherings and visiting with his car guys at Coney Island. Bob was the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 53 for over 10 years where both of his boys became Eagle Scouts, and he earned the District Award of Merit in 1973.   Bob was an amazing friend, dedicated employee, devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather.  He spread joy and laughter to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Esther; wife, Dolores: siblings, Florence Backstrom, June Edwards, Jim Nordland, Dave Nordland and son-in-law, Tony Dobinson.

Bob is survived by his children, Rob (Mo) Nordland, Jean (Kevin) Nordland-Skomars, Don (Lynn) Nordland and Linda Dobinson; grandchildren, Jessi (Dan) Rolland,  Doug (Shelby) Pitts, Al (April) Skomars, Brian (Marissa) Nordland, Stefani Clements, Kyle (Wendy) Skomars, Danny (Maria) Nordland, Natalie (Joe) Diltz, Jack Dobinson and Sam Dobinson; great grandchildren, Harper, Paxson, Hudson, Jace, Gentry, Sawyer, Avacyn, Oliver and a great granddaughter due in Nov; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He will be greatly missed.

The visitation will be Wednesday, Sept 27th from 5-7pm with Wake Prayers at 6:00 pm In the Dougherty Funeral Home.  Visitation will continue Thursday, Sept 28th  from 10am to the 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. John’s Church, 4230 St. Johns Ave., Duluth, MN.  Burial with military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard at Forest Hill Cemetery.  Memorials to Department of Veterans Affairs in Superior, WI or the American Cancer Society.
