Robert Buchanan, Jr.

Robert Bruce Buchanan, Jr, 67, of Duluth, died Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Solvay Hospice House.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather (papa), son, brother, uncle and friend.

He was born in Duluth May 19, 1954 to Robert Bruce and Betty (Wheeler) Buchanan, Sr. He married Becky Jo (Kotzer) on November 4, 1978 in Minneapolis. While working as a carpenter in Minneapolis, he studied at Brown Institute to become a computer programmer, completing the program on February 4, 1983. He and Becky moved to Duluth in 1983 to raise their family where he spent a career in computer programming. He retired from Arrowhead Regional Computing Consortium as a network manager in 2019.

Bob had a passion for the outdoors, especially snowboarding and being in the Boundary Waters with friends and family. He was an avid reader, gifted wood carver and an exceptionally talented closet guitar player. His dedication to his family and community was felt by the unique mark he made in each of our lives.

He was preceded in death by his father. Bob is survived by his wife Becky; two sons: Ben (Lisa) of Grand Rapids, MN and Joe (Brittani) of Duluth; three grandchildren: Alex, Scarlett and Olivia; his mother Betty Buchanan; his sisters Sarah (John) Graves, Pat Buchanan and Amy (Sam) Anderson; his brother Jim (Roxanne); his brother-in-law Ken (Barb) Kotzer; his sister-in- law Kathie (Dave) Severson; nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021, 11am, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1325 N 45th Ave E, Duluth. Bob will be laid to rest at Forest Hills Cemetery, Duluth at a later date.

Bob’s family is grateful to Dr. Dan Nikcevich and the Essentia Health staff and the wonderful staff at Essentia Health Hospice and Solvay Hospice House for their loving care.
