Robert Gerald "Jerry" Lowney, 88 of Duluth passed away Friday, September 25, 2015 in his home with his family by his side. Jerry was born February 23, 1927 in Duluth to Patrick and Margaret Lowney. He served in the 6th Division US Marine Corps Company B during WW II in China and was a member of the China Marine Association. After his honorable discharge, Jerry returned to Duluth and was employed by the Minnesota Dept. of Transportation for 40 years. He was a member of the former Sacred Heart Church and was then a long time active member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. He was also a life member of VFW #137.
Jerry married Mary Sink on July 2, 1949 and they raised four children.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; siblings, Elmer "Smiley", Joseph, Theresa and Betty; grandson, Randy Neil.
Jerry is survived by his children, Patricia (James) Fisher, Michael (Karen) Lowney, Timothy (Nancy) Lowney and Laurie Sando; grandchildren, James (Aimee) Fisher Jr., Julie (Marshall) Fisher, PFC Mitch Sando USMC, Ryan Sando, Lisa (Tom) Manley and Rebecca (Cris) Greene; great grandchildren, Logan, Vivian, Jameson, Justin, Steven, Zachary, Amber, Andrew, MacKenzie, Matthew, Madison, Nicholas, Patrick, Samuel and Mayley; great great grandchildren, Lilly and Kayden and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7pm with Wake Prayer at 6:30pm in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Thursday from 9:30am to the 10:30am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 325 E 3rd St. Duluth. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the family.
