Robert D. "Bob" Pillsbury, 89 of Lester Park died Monday, May 19, 2014 at Chris Jensen Health Center. Bob was born in Duluth on May 20, 1924 to Walter and Catherine Pillsbury. He graduated from Duluth Cathedral High School and served in the US Navy as a Coxswain during WW II. After the war, Bob returned to Duluth. He married Bernice Hossalla on April 12, 1957. Robert retired from NW Bell after many years as a Telephone Tech.
Bob was a member of St. Michael's Church, Telephone Pioneers, VFW Post 137, and the Lake Ave. Loafers; he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting and sports, especially hockey and football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Bill, Ray and Charlie and his sister, Virginia Kelso.
Bob is survived by his wife, Bernice; children, Robert W. (Samara) of Oshkosh, WI, Susan (Buzz) Barton of Escondido, CA and Joseph of Roseville, MN. Grandchildren, Seamus, Mina, Nicole and Michelle and great grandson, Jackson; sister, Mary Lou Bartikoski of Mpls, MN and many nephews and nieces.
The family would like to thank the staff at Chris Jensen's Cedar Wing and Activity Dept. for their loving care of Bob.
Visitation will begin Friday at 10am with Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Michael's Church, 4901 E Superior St. Duluth. Burial with military honors accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are preferred and may be directed to; Let's Go Fishing, Box 16024 Duluth, MN 55816 or St. Michael's Church. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, Duluth, (218) 727-3555.
