Roy Meyer

Roy Allen Meyer, 84, of Duluth, MN, died Monday January 16, 2017.  Roy was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on April 20, 1932, to Fred P. and Lillian M. Meyer.  At age one, the family moved into their family cabin on Lake Namakagon, Cable, WI.  The family built and operated a resort for 30 years.  Roy graduated from Cable, WI, High School in 1950.  He graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth in 1954.  Roy was commissioned a 2nd Lt. in the USAF and entered active duty on May 28, 1955.  He served in the USAF as a pilot for four years.  Upon his release from active duty, he joined the Minnesota Air National Guard in Duluth, and served as a pilot and Plans Officer until he retired as a Lt. Col. in 1983.  Roy served as an elementary teacher and principal from 1961 to 1993 in the Duluth Public School System.

Roy was preceded in death by his sister Mary Lopata.

Roy is survived by his loving wife Angeline Marie Loegering Meyer of Duluth, sons Keith Meyer of Shakopee, MN and Curtis Meyer of Santa Clarita, CA, his daughter Marjorie Gottwalt of Trinity, NC, nine grandchildren, step-daughters Dr. Tracy White of Baraboo, WI, and Kelly Riihiluoma of Cloquet, MN, 6 step-grandchildren, and brothers Fred Meyer of Rice, Lake, WI and John Meyer of Denver, CO.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 5PM to 7PM in Dougherty Funeral Home, and will continue Saturday from 10AM until the 11AM Funeral Service in Concordia Lutheran Church.  2501 Woodland Ave. Duluth, MN 55803.  Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.  Military Honors will be Accorded by the Duluth Honor Guard.  In Lieu of Flowers memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army.  215 S. 27th Ave. West, Duluth, MN 55806.  Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home, 600 E. 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55805.  218-727-3555.
